If you are thinking about spicing up your resume, I would like to invite you to spice up your self-esteem too. Easier said than done, you say!
I agree. Here is one cheap and pretty easy thing you can do to help you learn about what you are good at. And, believe me knowing what you are good at boosts your self-esteem.
Here’s what you do. Get a sheet of paper and write these words at the top.
Your Name is good at (For me this would read… Colleen is Good at)
Then put 1, 2, 3, up to 10 down the left hand side of the page.
Now, think of a few people that would be honest about telling you what you are good at. Pick people who are creative and won’t freeze up and not be able to think of anything.
Ask, them to fill in the blanks. You will be amazed at what you learn about what others respect about you. Then be sure and thank them.
Here’s an example of what my sheet might look like…

Thank you for helping me discover what I should put on my resume. I would love you to use more specific action oriented words rather than friendship type of words. For example,
1. Colleen is good at making friends… Colleen is good at interacting with people. She’s great at customer service. She goes the extra mile to make sure customers are satisfied with her work. Because of this she gets great referrals.
